The Youth Associations faced vulnerability situations and were thus challenged to test and improve their leadership skills. Guided by Luís Peixoto Vilar, Communication Advisor of the Municipality of Guimarães, they reflected on what it means to be a good leader, highlighting the importance of “putting ourselves in others’ shoes”. This was followed by a climate reflection with Beatriz Mafra from the Get2c movement, who led the participants on a "Climate Journey".
Next, they participated in a roundtable led by Francisca Costa, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer at NOVA SBE, Maria João Ribeiro, People Operations Management, and Mariana Rodrigues Oliveira, President of RYSE Portugal. During the discussion, valuable lessons were shared on promoting a culture of transparency, feedback, and balance between professional and personal relationships. Some of the advice shared included: “put every monkey on its branch”, “set the ego aside”, and “promote a culture of feedback”.
Leadership Challenges for Entrepreneurs
For Entrepreneurs, the Bootcamp was also a unique opportunity for learning and experience exchange. Among many others, Laura Esteves, COO of Subvisual, shared a lesson from her grandmother that she carries with her throughout life: “If we have two ears and one mouth, we must listen twice as much as we speak”. In turn, Rui Rocha Costa, founder of EatTasty and Customer Success at hAPI, emphasized the importance of learning from others’ mistakes, highlighting that there is no better way to grow as an entrepreneur.
The journey of Empreender@Braga continues next Monday, with more sessions, workshops, and networking opportunities.
